World Below Support

World Below helps identify places in the direction of your iPhone's camera view using an offline place database, location and orientation. Labels are estimates. The app is for curiosity, not navigation or operational aviation decisions.

Getting started

Allow camera and location access when prompted. Try the app outdoors with a clear view first, then point the phone toward the landscape and give it time to find its position and orientation. You can zoom and tap a displayed place label. An app account is not required.

When names are missing or misplaced

A clear camera view does not guarantee a good GPS fix or compass reading. Aircraft cabins, small windows, reflections and magnetic interference can prevent alignment or reduce accuracy. If reception is poor, trying a different permitted window position may help; it is not a guaranteed fix.

This first release may take time to align, and a status indication or label may not always appear as expected. Treat uncertain labels as estimates. Do not use them to make navigation or safety decisions.

Saving a photo

Choose the photo control and allow access to add photos. Saved still images appear in your Photos library. A selected place name may be included. The app does not record a flight video or upload your photos.

For a useful report, include your World Below version and build, iPhone model, iOS version, what happened, and whether you were outdoors or behind an aircraft window. If you choose to include a screenshot, avoid private information or identifiable passengers. We do not need your Apple account password.

Place data

Place names use GeoNames data under CC BY 4.0. The bundled place data was converted for offline use. Limited terrain support uses Mapzen Terrain Tiles and Copernicus EU-DEM: Europe terrain data produced using Copernicus data and information funded by the European Union, EU-DEM layers. Terrain Tiles were accessed on 8 August 2026 from the AWS Registry of Open Data. Terrain data was downsampled for offline use.
